Wind power or wind energy is the conversion of natural winds to another more useful type of energy such as mechanical energy for grinding corn or pumping water for drainage or irrigation and electrical energy. Wind power has been used for thousands of years to sail and irrigate and allowed for the development of travel, trade and agriculture.
After so long an asset to human endevor why do we need to be convinced of its value in replacing fossil fuels to create renewable energy. The problem we face with energy is the scale of the requirement, not only in the developed world but the enormous future requirement of the developing world. As so many can benifit from the introduction and expansion of wind power that can be brought online in relatively quick time, the only stumbling block is finance. As initial finance costs are large and the credit crunch has reduced access to funds there is a desperate shortage in investment across the globe in what otherwise would help eleviate the shortfall in energy supply over the next decade.
When looking to invest in wind power you need to consider all the various options. Wind genertors are complex systems made up from many different components. These components can often be made by different specialist manufacturers. So you could look to invest in the component manufacturers or the overall system builders. Then there are the teams that install the wind generators, the maintenance companies as well as the companies that develop and run the transmission systems that gets the electricity to the consumer.
