Carbon reduction strategies are an attempt to reverse the gradual rise in the earths temperature known as Global Warming. This warming is thought to be due to human activities that have released excessive amounts of 'greenhouse gases' into the earth's atmosphere over a relatively short period of time. These 'greenhouse gases' are generally carbon based such as Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Methane (CH4)
The predominant activity that has led to a rise in these gases is the burning of fossil fuels for the production of heat, electricity and transport. This fossil fuel has been generated over billions of years by trapping natural Carbon materials and storing underground as coal, oil and gas. This has then been released and burned in vast quantities that have released high levels of greenhouse gases in the earth's atmosphere. The global warming that is apparent today will only get worse and potentially lead to global disaster if the release of carbon is not reduced significantly and soon.
Vast sums of money are being invested in clean-tech and renewable energy generation making it a prime choice for the green investor.
