Global Clean Energy Report - China surpassed the US in 2009 as the country with the greatest investment in clean energy

Two new reports have been published outlining the global progress towards a clean green energy future. The first is the Global Trends in Sustainable Energy Investment 2010 and its sister report the Renewables 2010 Global Status Report.
Investment in renewable energy continues to grow despite the economic downturn and tightening of financial markets along with the falling price of oil and lack of global climate policy.
Key features of the reports are:
- 2009 was the second year running that the US and Europe added more renewable energy capacity than conventional energy generation.
- China added more renewable energy than any other country. It added more wind power than any other country.
- Wind power generation in Germany, Spain and other countries reaches new record highs.
- solar power
was up in Germany, Italy, Japan,United States and others although Spain saw installations down while it takes stock of previous years highs.
- Biofuels account for equivalent of 5% of world gasoline
- Government policies to promote renewable energy via green stimulus and tariffs continues to grow.
